simply good

Today dawned bright and late (yes, the sun rises around 8:30am) and the outdoor thermometer read - well, you can see the picture. Needless to say it was cold.

It's been a quiet few days thus far. The local community suffered a tragedy on Saturday; a farming acciendent killing an 11 year old boy. Since everyone here is related to everyone here, the loss was keenly felt. It's made me think a lot about how the snow here is so beautiful and seems to cover over a lot of the imperfections and brokenness in the world, yet sin still finds a way make its presence known. It makes me long for the day when we, and our world, will be made whiter than snow and sin will no longer have any say in the matter.

It never cesases to amaze me how each season brings new reminders of how God has broken into our world and rescued us from our tragic destiny. Each snow flake, each baby pine cone shouts the goodness of God. He is good all the time, in each season, in each phase of life in each heartache and sob - God is faithful.

Sometimes this truth is easier to recognize than others. When we are able to notice the beauty around us or take pleasure in the company of family and friends, we can walk away and praise God. But it is when those good times seem a distant memory that we need to be sorely reminded of how good our God really is.

"It is He who made us and we are His." That is a statement worth taking comfort in.
